Time flies when you're having...ummmm...

Wow. It's been over a week since I've written anything. Sorry, mom.

I'm trying to remember what I've done this last week, but honestly, it's just a blur. I guess I'll just cover the weekend (because, in reality, everyone is just workin' for the weekend, right???)

Friday:
I'm pretty sure work was workish...but let's skip ahead.
I had gotten a text message from my friend Lauren saying that she wanted me to come to Crave to watch her boyfriend play. So I asked Kim if she'd like to join me for a girls' night at Crave. We met at Crave around 7:30 for dinner. I don't know why I was shocked that Lauren rolled in around 8:45. Gotta love that girl...
We had a pretty mediocre meal (bar food...whatcha gonna do??), I got to catch up with some old friends, and we listened to Tim play some pretty good music (not that I'm shocked, but seriously...dude was pretty good...). Kim left around 11 and the rest of us made our way over to On the Roxx. I could handle that crowd for about 9 minutes, before I handed off my white wine (Why did I order white wine?? Wow. I'm weird.) to the nearest friend of a friend (I found it cute that he thanked me for it like I actually bought it for him...) and bolted for the door.
Here. Pics.

Saturday:
Let's see....
Sleeping in.
Cleaning.
Bath.
Blah, blah, blah...let's get to the good stuff.
Dinner at Firebirds with Sheesh, Scott, and Chris! YAY! I kind of knew we were going to be going out to dinner, but I just assumed it was going to be at Wild Wing Cafe or something. Boy was I wrong. No, no, no...Sheesh is too classy for that kinda crap. She was wanting a delicious steak from Firebirds, so darn it...that's where we went.
I WISH I had my camera there. We got a witness a full fledged gray mullet on a man....it appeared that he may have also permed his hair. It made my entire night. It really did.

After dinner, Chris and I went back to his house to wait for Julie to come over and watch Dark Knight. She got there around 11...and I vaguely remember the rest of the night. I know I kept falling asleep, then I'd hear C & J laugh, I'd wake up and act like I'd been awake the entire time, then I'd fall back asleep. Late night movies really aren't my forte.

Sunday:
Sunday morning I ran downstairs to the dryer to try to find something to wear to take Julie to the airport. I'm glad that C didn't come over 30 seconds earlier or else he totally would have caught me minus one shirt in the hallway....then, knowing him, he'd swear that I had meant to do that (I kid, I kid...). I was actually shocked that he showed up at 8:30 to go with us to the airport. What a great friend that boy is...red eyes and all...
After dropping J off, we went up to Mooresville to check out the bargains at Linens n Things (there weren't too many, so you weren't missing anything...). We also stopped by TJ Maxx and Party City for some NYE accoutrements, then headed to Chili's for a (surprisingly) delicious lunch.
I don't remember what I did on Sunday night, but something tells me it included getting into bed early...

So, there you have it. Take it or leave it....that was my weekend...

Let's give them something to talk about...

I'm sitting here, watching some random TV, trying to figure out what to write about. So, please be aware that this blog is going to be boring (you know it's a bad sign when I don't even know what I'm going to write about and I'm still going to write)...

I guess I'll do a weekend recap. I haven't done that yet, right??

Friday:
I woke up early on Friday to cut up some potatoes (blessed potatoes...) to make some crock pot potato soup. I swear, crock pots are magic things. You put in a bunch of stuff that doesn't look so good, leave for work, come back 9 hours later, and suddenly you have a yummy meal. I'm telling you....it's magic.
The one unfortunate thing about crock pots is when you find out halfway through your day that 5 of the 6 people that usually come over are sick, you can't just not make dinner.
No, no, no...not with a crock pot. Dinner is already being made, there's no turning back once you start...
So when I got home, I packed up some soup and bread for Brian to pick up and I packed the rest to take over the Chris'. We spent the evening watching a fantastic movie (Leatherheads....please watch it and let me know what you think...). Oh! And C made some apple crisp thing. Crap, that was yummy....

Saturday:
I love Saturdays. Mainly because I don't have to do anything that I don't really want to do. I stayed in bed until about 8am, went downstairs and hung out in a time warp until 1:30 or so. When did THAT happen? After time flew, I took a bath for a couple hours and got ready for Kelly's party. We got to Kelly's at about 8pm and I managed to stay in my safety spot all night long. Yes, yes...I let the party come to me. You want to talk to me? You better come find me in the living room...
Around 11, Scott, Sheesh, Chris, and I went to Whisky River (we live in Charlotte, I'm not sure if they meant to misspell Whiskey) to meet Kim and Jimmy for Jimmy's birthday. I vaguely remember a cop being mad at Chris for trying to turn into a garage that was marked "GARAGE- PARK HERE" (How could he have thought that he was supposed to park there?? Silly boy.)
Once we got into Whisky River, the Steeles weren't feelin' the scene too much and left pretty early. Kim, Jimmy, Chris, and I must have just been rockin' the we're-somebody vibe, because some bouncer guy asked us to come into the VIP area. What is it about a rope that blocks off all the other people from having access to you that makes you feel so much better than them?? Did I just sound evil???? Oh...it's okay...I was going for that.
I could have sworn that I took some pictures at Kelly's, but my camera memory tells a different story...not one of these were taken at Kelly's...

I think we left Whisky River around 2 and I managed to make my way to Chris' couch....my mom did just tell me earlier that night to not drink and drive. I woke up around 7am to my own bar stench. I feel bad...I bet Chris' couch still smells. Whoops.

Sunday:
After ripping off my stinky clothes and jumping in the shower (I had to wash my hair twice, because I could still smell the smoke after the first washing...gross, huh??), I went downstairs and watched Vh1 Top 20 Countdown. Why do I love that show so much?? I watch it twice every weekend now. Sorry, I didn't mean to let you into my Loserville...
Around 11, C came over and we watched football while doing one of my favorite activities....internet surfing. I heart Sundays.
I went to bed around 8:30, fell asleep around 9, and woke up at 10:30 when Sam called. Here's our conversation:
Me: Hello?
Sam: Hey. Uh. Are you asleep.
Me: Mmm-hmmm...
Sam: Don't talk.
Me: What??
Sam: Don't talk, just listen.
Me: Okay. Go.
Sam: (she proceeds to sing me some soft rock song...I'm pretty sure it was Bonnie Raitt's Something to Talk About)
Me: Good night.
Sam: Okay...call me tomorrow.
Me: *silence* (I was already back to sleep)

I had a dream last night where my dad was telling me something. It's bothered me all day and I wish I could ask someone to fill in the holes (but that's the thing about dreams...you can't really ask other people what you dream...). All I remember is this: I'm standing in a kitchen making French toast, Chris walks in behind me and I say, "You get to meet my dad today!"
My dad walks in and says.......(this is where you fill in the blank).
Oh, well...what can ya do??

Today (which I realize really isn't the weekend, but still...I've bored you already, let's just add to it...):
My alarm went off at 5am, but I didn't roll out of bed until 6. Oops. I did make it to work before 7, though...so it's all good. The day was crazy and I just kept asking Jackie, "Is this day for real??" and "Is it just me...?" and "Are you kidding me with this nonsense!?!?"
She's a good friend...she just kept rolling her eyes and shaking her head in agreement.
I ran out the door a little after 3 and went over to Sam's to help her cut on her cast. She has the same need for free toes as I do and was bothered that the cast covered up her baby toe. She just needed me to cut it free. After cutting her poor baby toe free, Will woke up and came to hang out with us for awhile. About an hour later, Sam mentions, "Oh...we went to the doctor today and Will has strep."
Yeah. Thanks. I'll be leaving now.

And there you have it. My Monday.
Is my throat starting to hurt already?!?!?!? (I kid, I kid...or am I?!?!?)

What you write about when you have no inspiration...

Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 4.
"...my stomach feel better. I knew I might need it myself, but I..."
(I guess I really should read that book, I cracked the binding when I opened it, which speaks volumes as to how often I read for pleasure...)

Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What's there?
Gary's back left paw. What is his deal lately, BTW? Seriously...he's been so whiney. I wonder if he's getting sick like every other person in my life (HA...like Gary is an actual person...real people don't lick their own balls...GEEZ, GARY! STOP! It's like he knows I'm talking about him so he does the least classy thing possible...)

What is the last thing you watched on TV?
You mean before what I'm currently watching? Well, right now I'm watching Vh1 Top 20 Countdown...I don't remember what I watched before it....
When did I graduate from watching MTV countdowns to watching Vh1 countdowns? I'm just not a fan of that new rap music and young hipsters anymore...

Without looking, guess what time it is:
10:27 maybe???

Now look at the clock. What is the actual time?
Wow...I'm AWESOME. It's 10:21.

With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?
A Taco Bell commercial and Gary, well, licking...

When did you last step outside? What were you doing?
Last night I stepped outside of Chris' house and drove home, then stepped out of my car and walked into my house. It wore me out.

Before you started this survey, what did you look at?
On the computer??? These questions need to be more specific. I was reading my email...

What are you wearing?
My prom dress.

Did you dream last night?
Getting into the freezer and getting out a frozen pizza for Will...when I woke up, I realized that I forgot to send Brian home with one. I'm a horrible person...

When did you last laugh?
Last night, I'm sure. C makes me laugh a lot.

What is on the walls of the room you are in?
A starburst mirror. A calendar.  Blood spatter.

Seen anything weird lately?
This one thing. Oh, you have no idea. It was so weird....

What do you think of this quiz?
I want to know who wrote it. I mean, seriously...you are concerned with what people think of your quiz and you don't even know who's taking it...silly person.  And is it even a quiz? Isn't it more of just a questionnaire???

What is the last film you saw?
Oh. No. I wanted to stop it 7 minutes in.
Chris did not.
It was so bad that it is actually laughable.
Wait! That's the last time I laughed....at Leatherheads!

If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy?
A new car. Not even a super-nice car. Just a car.

Tell me something about you that I don't know:
Who are you?? Geez....I'm starting to think that I don't like these questions at all....

If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?
World peace. (I'm channeling Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality here...)

Do you like to dance?
I don't want to teach you how to salsa dance, I'll tell ya that...

George Bush:
Is that a question?
I've come to learn some things about this country we live in. People generally rip to shreds any guy who is in office and call him the worst President ever. After the next person gets in office, that person is "the worst President ever" and the previous President isn't so bad. Does anyone remember how "horrible" President Clinton was? Yeah, I've only heard good things about him as of late....that's my point.
So...I have to believe the George Bush isn't the worst President ever and he really did try (maybe not doing everything that I believe in, but that's why we vote....right??).
I have to believe Barack Obama really isn't out to take over the world and turn America into a Muslim country (where do people get this crap from????).
I believe that people need to start taking responsibility for their own political choices and quit acting like they can do such a better job. If you can, then maybe you should get into politics.

Okay...stepping off the soap box now. Sorry.

Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?
What do I call her? Probably a pet name. That's how I roll...
Though I've loved two girl names for awhile...so it will probably be one of these two: Anne (calling her Annie when she's little) and Kate (although, it bums me out that Em's dog's name is Kate...I don't think that will deter me, though...)

Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him?
Hmmm....well, I didn't let Laura name her baby boy Aiden, because I really wanted that name. Unfortunately, that name is just way too overused now. So...it's probably going to be a strong, classic, Biblical name. I'll keep you posted as to when I figure that one out.

Would you ever consider living abroad?
Am I going alone? Probably not then. If I'm going with someone, then I'm game...

What do you want to say to God when you reach the pearly gates?
Hey! Thanks!

Well maybe I'M a secret millionaire...

I'm not even sure what that title means. I'm sitting at the Fisicaro's house right now, enjoying the ever-so-popular (LIE! I've never even heard of it before) show The Secret Millionaire. It's a show where a millionaire (SHOCKER!) goes undercover (DOUBLE SHOCKER!!!) to find needy people (poor, poor, sad, poor people...) and give them money. Lots and lots of money (that I could actually blow through in about a day). Was that enough parenthesis for you???? Okay. Point: I cried.  Just a little. But still...tears. Millionaires are so nice. Their wives can't even fake being nice....but the actual millionaires? Nice.

Let me see, let me see...
Well, I'm not going to call him dad...EVER! Even if there's a fire!

Okay. Sorry. Sam put in Step Brothers. I couldn't help myself.

Hmmm....good story...good story...I've got to have one somewhere...let me think...

Alright...this one isn't so good, but here you go...
So I went to go pick up my Double Dipper Crockpot that I ordered online (yes, it's awesome) at Lowes on Monday. I really wish I could have taped the woman at the customer service counter. A-MAZING. AAAAA-MAZING. Not even kidding. Let me fill you in on the fantastic exchange:
(I step up to the counter)
Customer Service Lady (from here on out referred to as "CSL"): How can I help you?
Me (from here on out referred to as "Me"): *I'm choking on my own spit*
CSL: CAN. I. HELP. YOU.?.
Me: *cough* (I cover my mouth, mind you....I'm polite like that.)
CSL: Oh. You're choking. Do you need water?
Me: *cough, cough* No, I'm fine. Sorry...
CSL: What can I get you?
Me: I ordered a fantastic double dipper crockpot online that I need to pick up.
CSL: Name.
Me: Sarah Rogers.
CSL: Hold on. (To other CSL, "Where did that guy go from before?" blah, blah, blah...)
*Five minutes pass while I'm "holding on"*
CSL: Sorry. Name?
Me: SARAH. ROGERS.
CSL: And WHAT did you order?
Me: A crockpot.
CSL: Hold on.
*Crazy woman goes to find my super crockpot and then brings it to me*
Me: Great! Thanks! I'm so excited about this...I've been searching for this online for a week...
CSL: Really? A crockpot?
Me: Yeah, little things get me excited.
CSL: Uhhh...okay.
Me: Yeah, I know it's weird. I guess I just need something to look forward to.
CSL: Well, I guess that makes sense. I did get pretty excited about my new washer and dryer.
(At this point I realize that the woman is just showing off. I've just purchased a $15 crockpot and went to pick up said crockpot at the store to save on the $10 shipping cost...I am obviously in no position to be dropping $2000 on a fantastic washer/dryer combo like this show-off customer service lady...)
Me: Yeah, great, huh?
CSL: You're all set!
Me: Thanks! I'll think of you when I'm melting fabulous cheeses in my double dipper crockpot!
(That last thing is such a lie. I never said that. Don't think I ever said that. Thanks.)

Just so you can picture the greatness that is the Double Dipper:
Okay...that was fun....

Hmmm....I'm trying to remember the last thing that I wrote about. I think it may have been Thanksgiving (or Tanksgibbin as my brother/sister-in-law refer to it as...).  I really am trying my best to remember this weekend.

Saturday:
Emily and Dan were in town (SCORE!) and we went to Firebirds with Chris, Julie, and Thomas. It was a fantastic, fantastic, lovely time in which I enjoyed one of my very favorite things in life...a blue (or bleu) cheese filet. Holy crap. Yum. After dinner, Julie, Chris and I went to Fox and Hound where they proceeded to listen to me complain about my life. Good friends, they are...good friends.

Sunday:
We (you know, the crew...E, D, C, and J...) went to Monterrey. Oh, yes. Cheap Mexican food. How great is that?? Post-lunch, C, J, and I went to see Australia. The movie caused me to have a dream about being a "creamy" and getting married, but you'll have to see the movie to know what the heck I'm talking about. Post-movie we went home, where Dan was making us some super-yummy dinner. Good times.

Monday:
Uhhh...uhhh....I don't remember. Don't judge me.
Wait. Okay. I remember. I went to the Fisicaro's house (much like what I'm doing tonight!)....

Tuesday:
You know...the usual. Work. Dinner with C. A sweet gift from my bestestes. Good times.

Tonight:
Fisicaro's house. It's 11pm and Brian isn't home from work yet. I feel bad for the guy.

Okay. I've got a headache. I'm out.

LOVE!

Moses, Levi, Mordecai, Isaac, Esau, Saul...

Happy Friday!

I must say, this has been a pretty easy week. I was going to recap the entire week, but I realize now that I don't remember much before Thanksgiving. I'm going to count that as a blessing, because I know it included 10 hour days and it's probably for the best that I don't remember it.

Yesterday I slept in until around 7 (Nice! I LOVE waking up naturally....alarms suck....) and hung out for a little while until I decided to head to the grocery store for my last minute Thanksgiving items (mustn't forget the wine...).
Post-grocery store (Can anyone guess which store I went to???), I made my way over to Chris'. I know we had been planning this pre-Thanksgiving-dinner lunch for quite awhile, but I really had no clue what I was in for. Who knew the man can cook? (Well, I did...he cooks some pretty good stuff quite often...)
But seriously...homemade pizza and buffalo chicken dip. Are you kidding me?!? I ate so much I was actually worried that I may not be hungry for dinner (HA! You're a fool if you think I am passing up two...count 'em...TWO different kinds of potatoes...).

Julie and I went over to Beth's at 2. I won't bore you with the details, but I made mashed tators, J made green bean casserole and hashbrown casserole and Beth man-handled the turkey. Good times had by all.

Dinner was at 5 and we were done eating by about 5:07. Okay. That's a lie...we were done eating by 5:25 though. There wasn't much talking, but there was some eye contact between Scott and myself. It may have been the two glasses of wine that made me laugh until there were tears, but he was killing me and he didn't even know it. After dinner, he asked if the music was making me laugh. Apparently, we weren't on the same page about what was "funny". No...dear, Scottie...it was your facial expressions. Your facial expressions are priceless.

After dinner, the poker chips came out. I don't remember the game lasting so long last time, but holy crap...we started a little before 6 and it didn't end until after 9, I think. Of course, we paused the game for some pie, but still...you know we eat fast...it's not like pie took an hour. I'm starting to learn something, though. I have now played poker 3 times and all three times Scott has won. I think he's cheating. I haven't figured out how yet, but I'll continue thinking about it and I'll let you know...
It is really funny when Julie and Sheesh get tired of playing. Suddenly, even if they have a horrible hand, they go all in. I guess that is a quick way to get axed. I must say, though, Sheesh really was playing "serious" last night. Until she needed a break and handed her cards off to me (which was quickly taken over by Chris...)

I didn't want to sound dumb, so I waited until this morning to email C & J and ask them what all that river talk was about. Apparently, I "bet on the river" a lot or at least I heard people tell me that a lot last night. Even though Chris is all the way down in Charlotte and I'm up in little ol' Mooresville, I could feel him rolling his eyes at me. He didn't even dignify my question with a response...thank God Julie is a good explainer!
It's funny that I have no problem proclaiming my issues with New Jersey, but I didn't want to sound dumb asking a question about a game I've played only a few times. I guess that's just my pMD-ness coming out...

Post-poker, J and I went over to Chris' where we managed to have some cheesecake that he had made. Is it sad that I could still eat at that point? (Believe me, I'm still shaking my head at myself...)

I got to bed around 11 and my alarm went off at 6:30 this morning. Stupid alarm. Alarms suck.

Oh! And I know you are all DYING to know why there are a bunch of Old Testament dudes as the title of this blog...so here you go. On Wednesday, Chris, Julie, and I were playing the "Name six men from the Bible" game via email. I can't remember WHY we started this game...but at one point, Julie named off super common names (Adam, Thomas, Noah...you get the point) and Chris told her that she had to name only Old Testament names, because they are funnier. So...there you have it...six men from the Old Testament....at least I think they are all from the Old Testament, right?!?!??

It's the little things...

The other day, Sam was telling me a story (mind you, I can't retell the story as awesome as she told it to me originally...) about a day she saw an old man spit a loogy (or however you spell that...) while holding hands with his wife. A couple hours later, she saw the same couple, but this time the wife hawked a loogie (yes, I spelled it differently this time...I REALLY don't know how to spell that...).
That night, she got on her knees and prayed for God to fill her life with the little things that make life so great.  You know, like an elderly couple hawkin' snot...

That story made me realize...I am not nearly as thankful as I should be for the little things in life...
So...for every dumb story that has made me laugh...for every random email I get from my friends that makes me smile...for every song that makes me say "I LOVE this song" (it happens too often, I know)...for every time I catch Father of the Bride (Part 1 OR 2) on TV...for every time there isn't a line at Target...for every time there isn't traffic...for every sweet "just because" letter I get in the mail...for every dinner invitation when I've felt like I was so alone...for every awkward moment that is only funny 3 days later...for every time I don't burn the darn eggs...for every time I'm sitting between two of my very best friends on the couch...for every time I find a random Red Bull in the fridge at work when I just need some extra energy...for every time I go an entire day without any work drama...for every time Daniel has given spontaneous, not-asked-for kisses...for every time I've laughed so hard that I've peed a little...for every time I have not had to go to the store because I've actually had all of the ingredients in my possession...for every single little thing that I overlook only to focus on the bad....I AM THANKFUL.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!

Work It.

It is so easy to complain about  your job. I mean, you spend more time with your coworkers than you do with your actual family...and who hasn't gotten into it with a family member at least once in their lives? It's only normal that the people you work with every day will eventually get on your last nerve.
I have to say though, I am lucky. Beyond lucky. I am fortunate to have such an amazing group of people that I get to work with every day. How can I not feel blessed when every day on TV you see people searching desperately for jobs and I get to go every day and work with people that make me laugh? Believe me...I've had worse jobs than this one and you know what? I'm thankful for those as well. At least they make me realize what I have now.  One of the things that is so great is that I know that this didn't happen by chance. I work next to Jackie for 8 hours a day and she was handpicked by someone who knows me better than any other boss I've ever had in my life, Adam's mom, Becky.
When they were opening the center in Mooresville, there were 2 candidates for Jackie's position. Becky knows me so well...this is actually what she told me after the interviews, "We're hiring Jackie. She's great and you're going to love her. The other girl just kept saying that she was an athlete and I knew that would irritate you, so you're getting Jackie."

Okay. Seriously. Think about that people. My team at work was put together by a woman that KNEW an outspoken "athlete" would bother me. How AWESOME is that?!?!
Added bonus: Jackie graduated college with a degree in Psychology. She's like a free therapist that I get to talk to all day long!
Wow...now that I think about it, I owe that girl a drink or two...

So when I am at work and feel like screaming, I just need to remember...I am THANKFUL for these people and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else...
